Please see below a few hints and tips we would recommend before your visit

Although there are many factors that could affect the quality of your scan, if you follow these simple tips, then it may improve the overall success and clarity of your images:

If you are coming for an early reassurance or gender scan, please drink approximately 1 pint of water 40 minutes prior to your appointment.
If your coming for a bonding scan you do not require a full bladder.
Keep Active – If you’re driving make sure you have time for a little walk around before your appointment to help get your baby active.
Try having some fresh orange juice or some natural sugars 30 minutes prior to your visit.

What is a 3D / 4D Scan?

A 3D / 4D scan is an ultrasound examination that allows you to see the face and features of your baby in 3 dimensions and in colour. The 4th dimension is time, so you actually see your baby moving around.

Is a 3D / 4D scan safe?

Absolutely yes, the 3D / 4D scanning adopts the same approach and practices as a normal 2D scan in pregnancy scanning. The only difference is the equipment and technology used which allows you to see your baby in 3D / 4D.

Ultrasound technology has been around for more than 40 years; it uses soundwaves ‘not’ radiation to produce an image of your baby. At Baby I Love You we practice the A.L.A.R.A principle, which stands for, As Low As Reasonably Achievable, meaning the ultrasound setting we use is extremely low, but it is still possible to achieve fantastic clear images.

Will my scan always be successful?

There are some factors that can affect the success of your scan, the most common being the position of your baby. A high BMI can also affect the quality of images and also reduced amniotic fluid. Depending when you come for your scan the amount of room your baby has to move around can also affect the clarity of your images. We recommend no later than 33 weeks, however we are happy to scan beyond this stage but the quality of your images may not be as clear.

Is there a best time for my 3D / 4D scan?

It depends what you are looking to see and achieve. 2D scans can be performed as early as 7 weeks and 4D from as early as 16 weeks. Many families like to come in twice, early on in their pregnancy from 16 weeks and again once their baby starts to develop more fat with defined facial features from 24 weeks. It becomes more difficult to obtain detailed images as your baby starts running out of room.

When is the best time to have my 3D / 4D scan if I am having twins?

Twins tend to have less space around them so we usually advise having your bonding scan slightly earlier between 20-26 weeks.

Why are multiple pregnancy scans more costly?

This is simply because they take longer to perform. We allocate a longer appointment time to ensure you get the best from your scan. You must inform us at the booking stage if you are having a multiple pregnancy so we can allocate the appropriate time. A 20% charge will be added to the overall cost of the package.

How far in advance do I need to book my appointment?

We recommend you make your booking at least 4 weeks in advance. This is to allow you a more flexible approach as to when is more convenient for you and your family / friends. We may, however have cancellations so it is still worth contacting us to see if we can accommodate your request.

Will my scan detect abnormalities?

At Baby I Love You we offer 2D, 3D and 4D scans, we provide a basic fetal well-being check during your scan, however we do not provide anomaly reports and all Mums should attend their routine hospital appointments and scans.

If an abnormality was detected we do have a duty of care to discuss these findings in a sensitive manner. If necessary, you will be issued with a referral letter based on our findings and you will need to contact your health care provider (GP or Midwife) so a medical follow up can be arranged. Support can be provided during this time if necessary.

Rescans

Sometimes your baby may be feeling a little shy. If this is the case we will try all of the tricks we know to attempt to get your baby into a better position, however if we are still unable to get any images during your appointment then we do offer one free rescan usually within one to two weeks following your appointment.

Our free rescan is offered on the understanding that you acknowledge that we are unable to guarantee that baby’s position will be ideal during your rescan.

Can you tell me the gender of my baby?

Yes, we can tell you the gender of your baby. This is generally 99% accurate and is only possible if your baby is in the right position. If your baby is not in the correct position we will invite you back under our rescan policy.

Do I need to have a full bladder?

You need to drink approximately 1 pint of water 40 minutes before your appointment if you are coming for an early reassurance or gender scan. If you are coming for a bonding scan a full bladder is not normally necessary.

Do I need to bring my hospital notes?

We recommend you bring your hospital notes to all appointments in the event we have any queries or concerns during your fetal wellbeing checks.

If you are coming for a growth scan or you would like growth measurements during a 3D / 4D bonding scan we will need your notes to asses your baby growth using your customised growth charts.

How long will my appointment last?

This depends on what package you select however, all appointments are inclusive of your scan time and time in the studio to take away your treasured memories which will last forever. We also ask you to arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment to complete any necessary paperwork.

Are friends and family welcome to join?

Absolutely, yes! This is a very exciting time for you and we encourage you to bring your friends and family. Our ultrasound room can comfortably sit 6 guests. We have a wall mounted screen so everyone is able to see your new bundle of joy. We encourage siblings to come along to share this special moment, but you must ensure they are accompanied by an adult.

Can I take a video recording during my scan?

Unfortunately you are not permitted to take photographs or video recordings within the ultrasound room. If you wish to have your scan recorded, you can purchase a DVD from our additional extras.

If you wish to take photographs of your family then your are more than welcome to do this within our reception area.

How do I pay?

You can pay for your scan in full on the day of your appointment.

This amount can be payable by cash, debit or credit card.

How we store and use your personal data?

We collect and use your information under EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

We do not share your information to third parties, however we have a duty of care to local authorities and the NHS if any medical referrals or safeguarding concerns were identified.

How do I make a complaint?
